Will Ferrell: To be or not to be Elf...?
by: Jinglebelle
Accoring to Variety, Since Elf grossed a surprising $220 million worldwide,
a sequel has seemed inevitable, and many in town have been buzzing recently
that it was finally set to move ahead. However, moviehole.net quotes Ferrell
as saying "Elf 2 got killed. I killed Elf 2."
According to Variety, Elf star Will Ferrell is currently trying to talk
New Line into 'backing up the Brinks truck' to secure him as the star of
Elf 2: The Wrath of Leon.
"We're only going to make this if it's with Will," confirmed New Line
production prexy Toby Emmerich. The deal for Ferrell is expected to
include a guaranteed $20 million - plus against gross points.
The studio is already thinking about the next steps but won't proceed with any
other elements until it closes with the in-demand actor.
It's still up in the air as to who will direct the picture. The original Elf's
Jon Favreau gets to look at the script first, but insiders say it's not clear if
he will end up behind the camera for the sequel or not.
The studio apparently has a list of directors who may take the riegns if Favreau
declines. The list supposedly includes several of the top comedy directors and
one surprising name: New Line executive, Kent Alterman, who's reportedly a favorite
of Ferrell's.
